Medium Clegg HammerThe 2.25 kg "Medium" CleggHammer was initially based on the "standard proctor" 2.5 kg laboratory compaction hammer but evolved to its present weight and drop-height for measuring shock attenuation characteristics of natural and artificial playing surfaces. It is constructed to be the same size as the Standard Clegg Hammer by using a mechanical combination of aluminum and hardened steel for the striking end rather than steel with a hardened steel end as used for the Standard Clegg Hammer. The shipping weight with the Australian case is a around 11 kg. Notation for the output at the fourth drop is CIV/M for "Medium Clegg Impact Value" when the Medium Clegg Hammer is dropped from its standard height of 45 cm, where the output is in Clegg units, i.e. where 1 Clegg unit equals 10 gravity units with the resulting decimal fraction truncated. Shown above left is a red-painted aluminium drop-hammer (e.g. Model 883) and shown above right is a red anodised drop-hammer (e.g. Model GTM-SS-E), both with hardened steel ends. |
